Broadway director Julian Marsh is counting on one last hit musical so he can retire and tend to his failing health. The production seems on track until its temperamental leading lady, Dorthy Brock, breaks her ankle on the eve of the premiere. With the show suddenly in danger, young unknown understudy Peggy is called on to step into the spotlight and carry the performance.
