This documentary traces the life of pioneering singer Chavela Vargas, from her birth in Costa Rica in 1919 to her death in Mexico in 2012. Built around an exclusive 1991 interview and performance footage, and guided by Vargas’s own distinctive voice, the film portrays a woman who defied expectations in how she dressed, spoke, sang, and shaped her life.
