Brilliant but eccentric British Detective Inspector Richard Poole is sent to the Caribbean island of Saint Marie to investigate a mysterious murder. For a man who hates the sun, sea and sand, the posting is far from ideal. Faced with a ramshackle police station and a very different way of working, Poole must adjust to island life while bringing his own precise methods to local policing.
