Desert Flower

Born into a nomadic family in Somalia, Waris Dirie flees at thirteen after being sold into marriage as a man’s fourth wife. Her path takes her to London, where she works as a maid at the Somalian embassy and later at a McDonald’s. Discovered unexpectedly, she rises to become an international top model, while her life story also leads her to speak out against female genital mutilation.
