After receiving his draft notice, Claude Bukowski leaves his family’s ranch in Oklahoma and heads to New York on his way to boot camp. In the city, he is quickly welcomed by a free-spirited group of long-haired hippies led by Berger. As Claude is drawn into their world, he also falls for Sheila Franklin, a wealthy young woman with a rebellious streak.
