In 1962 Baltimore, teenager Tracy Turnblad auditions for the city’s most popular TV dance program, The Corny Collins Show, and wins a coveted place on the broadcast. As her new visibility grows, Tracy uses her spot on the show to stand up for her friends and challenge the racial segregation that has long been part of its format.
