In 1980s Gotham City, Arthur Fleck struggles to get by as a party clown while chasing an unrealized dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. Living in poverty with his ailing mother, he faces rejection from a society that treats him as an outcast. As isolation and humiliation push him further from stability, Arthur begins to embrace crime and chaos.
