At St. Monica High School, orphan Mary Katherine Gallagher is a nerdy Catholic schoolgirl who feels like an outsider but dreams of something bigger. Longing to be kissed soulfully, she becomes convinced that the way to make it happen is to become a superstar. With her prayers, fantasies and talks with her only friend all fixed on fame, Mary Katherine sets her sights on standing out.
