Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani falls for grad student Emily Gardner, but their relationship is tested as cultural differences and family expectations come between them. When Emily is suddenly struck by a mysterious illness, Kumail must confront her feisty parents, the pressures from his own family, and the feelings he can no longer avoid.
