Margaret Tate, an overbearing New York book editor, learns that her visa status is in danger and that she could be deported. To keep her job and stay in the country, she pressures her put-upon assistant, Andrew Paxton, into agreeing to marry her in exchange for a promotion. But when Margaret travels to Andrew’s hometown, the arrangement begins to affect her in unexpected ways.
