A 10-year-old child prodigy with a gift for science and cartography lives on his family’s Montana ranch with his cowboy father and scientist mother. When he is selected to receive an award from the Smithsonian Institution, he slips away in secret and crosses the country aboard a freight train, leaving behind home for an unexpected trip to Washington, D.C.
