In 1950s Seattle, a rebellious teenager and his mother try to build a better life after moving in search of a fresh start. When she meets a man who first appears polite and dependable, their hopes begin to shift. But his abusive behavior soon puts them in danger, leaving the mother struggling to hold on to hope while her son looks for a way out of their impossible situation.
