Steve Everett is a veteran reporter with a long list of flaws: he drinks too much, chases women and fails as a father. But when he is assigned to the case of a San Quentin death row prisoner scheduled to die at midnight, Everett begins to believe the condemned man is innocent. With only hours left before the execution, he races to find evidence that could save a life.
